Ha! First time in almost a year to post something! #lame #fail #boo
Just a quick update…
Just had a great reading of “He Said, She Said” – which I wrote with Glenda Stirling

It’s already drawn the interest of Lunchbox AD Pam Halstead, who is trying to fit it into her upcoming Stage One plans…
Speaking of Stage One and Lunchbox – They’ve announced they’ll be producing my new Xmas play – “Last Christmas” next season in December 2011. - It will have a workshop and reading on June 24th @ Lunchbox. Hope to see you there. Proud to be one of many local writers programmed into next season.

Also have since done a new draft of 6-Car Pile-Up, am working on something new and exciting about hockey (big surprise) and am beginning to plot a new adventure with Andy Curtis (one of my favourite silly people).
Hope to post more often #turningoveranewleaf

Few! Okay so I’ve started a new routine and am finally making some progress!
Up a 6am the last few days – pot of coffee – me and the dog on the couch and an hour’s worth of writing before the family rises and the flurry of the day gets underway. My daughter just got up and is making me breakfast! Sweet.
So scene one is finished and after some serious dithering, scenes two and three have begun. Struggle was where to pick up the action after the first scene and deciding how much of the plot of the scottish play I actually wanted to echo overall. I feel like the whole thing is going to come exploding out, I’m just being a bit hesitant on which direction I’d like to explode in.

Also working on the deck this weekend – building is almost as satisfying as writing!

Re: Corpsing Draft – Still sorting out backstory and outlining which scenes I’ll need to tell the story, so i jammed out halfway through writing Act 1, Scene 1. Still, I got a good start on how it’s all going to work out.
Looking probably 5 short scenes per Act – setting for now is moving about, but mainly (as this is a play about theatre) it takes place everywhere the audience doesn’t usually go – Backstage, Green Room, Rehearsal Hall, Cast party, etc. Sticking with the 8 characters (4M, 4W) that I had in the earlier draft, but will be switching things up quite a bit.
Watched “Waiting for Guffman” last night for a little inspiration into the creative furnace – decided that the world of Corpsing must be equally silly…
On a side note, we have starting doing home-renos, so I have a very productive way of procrastinating right now, hopefully I can split my time fairly evenly…

Last night marked the end of my daughter’s soccer season, which marks the end of my soccer season (I’m her coach), which in turn frees me up a couple more evenings a week to do some writing! I can’t believe I haven’t posted anything since I set this up in March – bad blogger.
So here’s the scoop – I have several projects I’m working on, or rather would like to be working on, and will try and make a point of updating them all and my progress here. There are re-writes to several projects I have in the can already – including Corpsing (a comic thriller about a production of the Shakespearian comic thriller MacBeth), 6-Car Pile-Up (six interwoven monologues about the same car accident), and Spare Parts (an accidental suicide, a passive aggressive poltergeist and a man starting a new religion). There’s also a few new projects I’ll be starting, including The Last Days of Fort Whoop-Up, a new Christmas play about family, and a kid’s novel for my daughter.
First up is a new draft of Corpsing – Corpsing was first written last fall (2009) for the St. Stephen’s Radio Knights – Much has and will change… Better get writing.

Just finishing up several projects, including a couple of designs and teaching playwriting to the graduating acting class at Mount Royal University – fun bunch – lot’s of great creative work for first-timers. Now I have a huge pile of plays to read and grade – finishing the website will have to wait a bit…

This is my first foray into the world of blogging – bear with me as I get the hang of things. Most recent big news (besides launching this site) is the upcoming studio production of my play Anomaly at the University of Lethbridge by Nadine Cirankewitch, one of my former students from Mount Royal University. I’m looking forward to seeing it. Here’s a pic from the original Lunchbox Theatre Production – (with Dave Trimble, C. Adam Leigh and Jenny Esdale)
